Robert and Kate Speer by Cynthia Mahon-Southern

Robert Speer was the well known mayor of Denver, CO from 1904 to 1912 and 1916 to 1918.  He had a vision of Denver: the City Beautiful.  He envisioned broad avenues, convention centers, parks, grand buildings and cultural and scientific programs and attractions for all its citizens.  It was due to his vision that Denver is the city that it is today.

Kate was his wife.

Robert Speer was born in 1855 and died in 1918 and Kate was born in 1866 and died in 1956.

"Denver has been kind to most of us by giving to some health, to some wealth, to some happiness, and to some a combination of all."
-Mayor Robert Speer, 1909
