William Garrett Fisher Co-founder of May D&F (May Daniels and Fisher) with William Cooke Daniels.  He was born in 1844 and died in 1887 at the age of 43.

May Department Stores was a department store chain founded in 1877 by David May in Leadville, Colorado.  Its headquarters moved to St. Louis, Missouri in 1905, and the company went public in 1911.  In 2005 May Department Stores was acquired by Federated Department Stores for $11 billion in stock.

Before the deal May owned Lord & Taylor, Marshall Field's, Filene's/Kaufmann's, Filene's, Kaufmann's, Hecht's, Strawbridge's, Foley's, Robinsons-May, Meier & Frank, L.S. Ayres, Famous-Barr, The Jones Store, After Hours, David's Bridal and Priscilla of Boston.

May also owned several historical companies, some of which were founded earlier than May was.  These included L.S. Ayres & Co, d. The Castner-Knott Co, The Dayton Co, The Denver Dry Goods Co, The Famous-Barr Co, The Donaldson Co, William Filene's Sons Co, Foley Brothers, Goldwaters, Marshall Field & Co., G. Fox & Co, Hahne & Co, The Hecht Co., The William Hengerer Co, Joseph Horne Co, J.L. Hudson Co, The Jones Store Co., Kaufmann Brothers, Levy Brothers Co, Lord & Taylor, May-Cohens Co, May Co, May D F, Meier & Frank Co, The M. O'Neil Co, The H.& S. Pogue Co, J.W.
