Is is so sad and tragic that an earthquake struck Haiti.  I am saddened and horrified when I watch the videos, see the pictures and hear the stories related to this tragedy.  The best way to help the victims and survivors is to donate to the Red Cross or anoither reputable charity.  My favorite relief organizations are The Red Cross and The Salvation Army.

Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers too.

Matthew 25:35-40
For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in:
Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me.
Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink?
When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee?
Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee?
And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.

Please remember the poor, hurting and lonely people during this Christmas season.  Giving anything that you can to the Salvation Army is an excellent way to achieve this.  Christ spoke the above words about charity.

This is an exceptional book and program I became aware of recently. This program attempts to eliminate bullying, gossiping and rumor spreading thru the use of positive words. If you have nothing positive to say about someone don't say it. Always say positive things about someone.

Taking Chance was just released on dvd this past week.  It originally aired as an original film on HBO on 2-21-09.

This link is to Strobl’s report.
Exceed Services, LLC

It is the chronicle of Chance Phelps, a Marine who died in Iraq on 4-9-04, and his military escort, Lieutenant Colonel Strobl, who escorted his remains back to Dubois, WY.  It vividly portrays the respect, honor and dignity the Marines and all military give one another in life and in this case, in death.  It is touching, sad and will make you proud to be an American.  The movie is based on the after action report Strobl wrote after doing his volunteer escort duty for Chance.

I recommend this movie and story to everyone.

Alaskan Abundance PDF Print E-mail

Alaskan Abundance

In recent weeks and months I have seen a plethora of Alaskan related media appear.  I never thought much about Alaska before but have always loved its beauty and would love to vacation there someday, either on a cruise or a trip inland to Denali National Park.

I watched Northern Exposure when it aired and love watching reruns on my local PBS station in the evenings.  You couldn't help but love and follow the lives of Maurice, Joel, Ruth and all the others.  I loved the stoic manner of Joel's secretary, Marilyn Whirlwind.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Northern_Exposure....

Student Busted for Buying a Bag of Skittles PDF Print E-mail

From USAToday.com

Conn. student punished for buying candy from classmate

Michael Sheridan paid a big price for a small bag of Skittles.

When school administrators caught the eighth-grader buying illicit candy from a classmate at Sheridan Communications and Technology Middle School, the New Haven Register says he "was suspended from school for three days, barred from attending an honors student dinner and stripped of his title of class vice president."

His mother is appealing the punishment, which was also meted out to the sugar pusher.

“It’s too much. It’s too unfair,” Shelli Sheridan tells the Register. “He’s never even had a detention.”

Sheridan faces an uphill battle.

“There are no candy sales allowed in schools, period,” school spokeswoman Catherine Sullivan-DeCarlo tells the paper.
