I became friends with Saskia on Twitter and was asked to read her manuscript and write a review for her book. I did so and Saskia included my review in her book. It is an honor. Thanks Saskia. Here is a copy of my review.
This is a touching and intriguing memoir about a Sudeten German labeled a Mischling during the Holocaust. It sheds light on a relatively unknown dimension of the Holocaust and the postwar years. Sudeten Mischlinge survivors were forced to endure two ordeals, under Nazi and Soviet occupation. It is an amazing survival story of a woman and how her survival created family secrets and a tenuous and mysterious relationship with her daughter. It is also a story of love between Mother and Daughter and a quest for hidden family history. -Cynthia Southern, author of The Blond Beast of Birkenau and Belsen: The Life and Crimes of Irma Grese
