This picture was taken a year or so after Uncle Chick's enlistment into the US Navy. Thomas Charles "Chick" Corpe died Wednesday, April 10, 2013, in Belen, New Mexico. He was born August 11, 1918 to Joanna Willits and Thomas Mason Corpe at Mayoworth, Johnson County, Wyoming. He graduated from Johnson County High School in May, 1936. During his senior year of high school he stayed in a tent at the home of his sister and brother-in-law, Agnes and Leland Van Auken in Buffalo.

He joined the Navy in November 1936 and retired from the Navy in 1956. His ship was the USS Arizona, but he was in the states going to school when his ship was bombed at Pearl Harbor. He hoped that when he died his ashes would be taken to Pearl Harbor.

TC "Chick" Corpe married Lou Stubbs in Virginia in April 1944. They had two children, Candy and Chris. He married Maudie Beattie in 1970 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Corpe was sent by the Navy to Sandia Base, Albuquerque, in 1953. After retiring from the Navy he continued working at Sandia Base. He enjoyed shooting sports, studying outer space, flying his private plane and e mailing friends and family .

He is survived by his sister, Peggy Kepford of Sheridan, Wyoming, son Chris Corpe, Tucson, Arizona and daughter Candy Jo Kennedy, grand children Bonnie Bates of Hauser Idaho, Sean Patrick Kennedy and Autumn Kennedy; stepson Carl Beattie, step grand daughters, Leah Beattie and Aura Beattie, nieces and nephews including Shirley Sturdevant and Joanna Taylor of Buffalo.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters: Betty Sturdevant, Agnes Van Auken, brother Harold Corpe, wife Maude Corpe.

Memorial services will be held Wednesday, April 24, 2013, Noblin Funeral Belen Chapel, Belen, New Mexico.

 He was my Great-Uncle and I am so proud.
